Discussion Thread: Using Artificial Intelligence to Communicate the Grand Narrative
This is the exact and initial prompt I entered for Copilot is as follows:
Provide me with a presentation on sharing the Grand Narrative of the Scripture of God's Holy Word to a friend from the country of the Philippines. If you happen to reference the Bible, make sure to cite it from the King James Version. Consider the cultural systems, elements of verbal and non-verbal communication, religious background, and layers of culture that include the first six acts in the textbook, The True Story of the Whole World by Michael W. Goheen; Craig G. Bartholomew 2020 when providing the presentation. Also, create a tone for the presentation that is most appropriate for this culture while doing so.
The Filipino culture communicates with a gentler and more casual approach when engaging with others, especially those non-native to the country. My visit to Cebu City in the Philippines I even noticed all the security guards at many of the attractions, hotels, restaurants, etc. were even of a very tender nature. They even hold the door open for you while greeting you with a welcoming smile. However, this inviting spirit of the guardsmen and guardswomen are more found around the populace of the bigger cities and rural countryside as opposed to the more village and poverish locations of the Philippines. The Filipinos communicate best with a tender, loving, and respectful manner. So, my Copilot prompt is refined for presenting the Grand Narrative in a more gentle, friendly, and relaxed tone rather than being too direct or critical. The Filipino communication with culture considered can be perceived as deep-valued and soul-derivative. The Filipino terms paggalang (respect) and pakikisama (harmonious social interaction), can be an overall reflection for the norm of Filipino expression.
I was quite impressed by the presentational narrative that Copilot gave me as I could very well see myself communicating this Great Message amongst a youthful group of Filipino children. I was able to thoroughly understand it. The only way I could see myself having the hardest time communicating this is for the simple fact of the language barrier. I really wished I was fluent in the language or at least had some substantial understanding for it. AI assisted tools do not always provide exactly what you may be looking for, hence why it is nice that you can continue to refine your prompt as these AI tools do make errors. I was, in fact, very pleased with the conclusion about the presentation that CoPilot provided me with as I can certainly see myself addressing this message to a younger soul or group of young souls. I think it did a very good job of appropriately communicating and developing a narrative of the Great Message. There really wasn’t much I was displeased about. I could, of course, edit this in a way that is more personalized to my style of communication, but it could be used as is. When speaking to children of certain ages you also do not want to be too technical and overcomplicate your interaction with the message. I think this is a great template or guide for utilizing in the event I would see myself discussing the Grand Narrative to some young soul of the Philippine culture.
When I did my first read and review of Copilot’s feedback to the prompt, I do confess that I started to become a bit emotional because I was intensely envisioning myself delivering this message to a group of youthful souls. My heart aches and quickens as I meditate on the cruel, hateful, and evil sin of this wretched world considering that of young innocent souls. I have an incessant habit of technical thinking, especially with writing. So, like I said before, I was impressed and pleased with the outcome of CoPilot’s results. It also provided me with the insight of remembering to be mindful when speaking with younger folk as complicated speech and communication heavily affects your social exchange, particularly young people from another culture. Not all communication needs to be elaborate, eloquent, and critical; but humble, loving, and friendly spirited.
I also enjoyed how the prompt result provided scenario-based dialogue to better illustrate the setting. I can be a bit critical and skeptic certainly when it comes to AI, but in this specific assignment I was unexpectedly more open and receiving for the use of CoPilot assisting with pretty much providing a Christian lesson-based message for the young people of the Philippines. This experience with Copilot has given me more hope and to see more of how God can intervene with the use of these newly developed AI assisted technologies. This experience has also encouraged me more in the God-seeking goal of possibly teaching in future. Strangely enough, this assignment has indeed uplifted my spirit by providing me with ideas and even an outline for witnessing young folk of another culture.
